Chiggeri restaurant in Luxembourg City has entered the Guinness Book of World Records with the “most varieties of wine commercially available”, meaning that the restaurant has the longest official wine list in the world at 1,746 wines.

“It has been a long process, but we finally received the certificate last week from Guinness World Records” stated Chiggeri's owner, Bruno Meril in an interview with News352, while standing in front of the precious certificate proudly displayed on a easel behind him.

The restaurant actually achieved the record at the end of 2008 but needed to go through complicated procedures before finally obtaining the valuable certificate. Since that date Chiggeri's wine list has grown even further.

Bruno Meril went on to say, “At first when I arrived in Chiggeri (2003) the wine list had about 250 choices and now there are more than 2300 references. We have a wine list that is very alive because we only ever add wines that really inspire us”.

Bruno Meril, originally from Marseille, has worked hard to obtain the world record, together with Chiggeri, and is no stranger to the world of wine:

- In 1998 he was vice champion wine expert in the prestigious Ruinart Trophy, before leaving Marseille for Luxembourg.
- In 2001 he obtained the title, Best wine expert in Luxembourg.
- In 2003 Meril became the new owner of Chiggeri, taking over from the original owner, Mr Tabourin.
- 2004 saw him become semi-finalist in the “Best wine expert in the world” competition in Greece.
- He achieved list of finalists in the “Best work in France” competition in 2007
- And this year saw Bruno Meril become the the president of the “Association Luxembourgeoise des Sommeliers” (Luxembourg Association of Wine Experts)

Bruno Meril finished by saying, “little by little we entered our wine list into competitons. We contacted the Guinness Book of World Records because the title didn't exist and so we registered the record. They recorded 1746 references for our wine list”.

Chiggeri located on rue de nord, near Place de Theatre in the centre of Luxembourg City with views over the valley and Kirchberg beyond, has a lively bar and brassiere on the ground floor, and a chic restaurant on the second floor. For more information, visit the website: www.chiggeri.lu
