It was the end of the dream for Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella after she was defeated by Venus Williams in the third round of the US Open tennis tournament.
The 25-year-old from Esch-sur-Alzette, was defeated 6-2, 6-1 in the night game against two-times winner Williams.
Minella, a rank outsider, made it to the third round after beating Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets on Wednesday.

Cycling

Saturday’s eighth stage of the Spanish Vuelta 2010 was among the most difficult for Luxembourger Frank Schleck, who was pushed back to 13th place.
The cyclists did not have the stamina for the five peaks, including the notorious Xorret des Cati, located just a few minutes from the start.
He was pushed back even further to 13th place on the ninth leg on Sunday in the general classification. Brother Andy Schleck is ranked 55th overall. Current general leader is the spaniard Igor Anton.

Running

Favourite Vinetn Nothum was first to cross the line at the Kulturlaf in Esch on Saturday.
The runner completed the 16 km course in just 52" 46, a little above his predicted 51 minutes. The fastest woman was Anne Logelin with 1’ 04" 13.
Fola Hicham Adidab won the 10km race in 32" 33. The fastest woman was Tania Fransissi with 38" 56

Football

Bosnia thrashed Luxembourg at the Josy Barthel stadium on Friday.
The team won 3-0 in a disappointing match that saw Luc Holtz was suspended and suffered from the absence of the injured Jeff Strasser, Guy Blaise and Ben Payal.
Bosnia faces France on Tuesday.

Triathlon

Luxembourg’s Alain Kieffer finished 67th out of 1200 in the Gérardmer triathlon. First place was won by frenchman Sylvain Sudrie.
