Luxembourg tennis fans will be glued to their TV sets late into the night to see Luxembourg’s Mandy Williams play the biggest match of her career.

The 25-year-old sensation, who is ranked 185th in the world, will face down tennis favourite Venus Williams in what is expected to be an unmissable third round of the US Open at 7pm US time.

The rank outsider, who comes from Esch-sur-Alzette, in Luxembourg, is expected to play in front of 23,000 people when she takes centre court at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Minella made it through to the third round after beating Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets on Wednesday.

Odds on Minella to win are 8-1 and for Williams 1-20. Former world number one, Venus Williams won the US Open in 2000 and 2001.

The Arthur Ashe stadium, where the pair come to a head, is named after the first African American competition champion, who won in 1968. It cost 254m dollars to design and building and features 22 547 individual seats, 90 luxury suites, 5 restaurants and a two-tier players lounge.

On Thursday, the national Luxembourg coach Alexandre Lisiecki told News352 that Minella had a good dynamic and had nothing to fear from the game with Williams, who is ranked 3rd in the world. She told reporters that her game with Williams will be a "lifetime momemt."
