The terrace wars that have plagued bar owners in the Rives de Clausen could soon be over after a meeting was scheduled to find a solution.

In June this year, bars at the popular party venue were told by the court not to use their outdoor seating areas after 11pm because the noise pollution was upsetting residents.

Exasperated bar owners reacted with rage to the ban, which they say could severely affect their profits and contradicts what they were told by site developers Mousel.

One bar owner said: “We were encouraged to come and settle here by the Mousel brewery. And we were promised that we could use the outdoor terraces for our customers. Now suddenly, this is no longer true. I just don’t understand it.”

The court ruling followed public pressure from residents to maintain the peace and quiet of the area. However, the judge said that it was down to the ministry of the environment if they wished to grant permission for bars to use the terraces.

City mayor Paul Helminger recently said that he would stand by the judge’s decision. However, he reassured bar owners that no venues would be closed if they breached the ban.

Representatives of the local authority will meet the site’s developers and bar managers on September 14 at the town hall at 6pm to discuss the matter further.
