Shopaholics will want to book Monday off work when Luxembourg is transformed into one of the biggest markets in Europe.

The city’s annual Braderie will see more than 400 shopkeepers take to the streets to create a 4km retail experience.

The one-day bargain-hunting extravaganza runs from 8am until 5pm. Stalls will run along the pavements in Avenue de la Liberté, from the gare, to Bd Royal in the centre of Luxembourg.

Streets will be closed to traffic from midnight Sunday until Monday evening after the stalls have been cleared away.

Commuters should expect some disruption to bus services. Throughout Monday there will be no services between Hamilius and the gare bus stops, except for a shuttle for people with limited mobility.

Luxembourg’s Braderie takes place every year on the second Monday after the opening of the Schueberfouer. It is one of Europe’s largest markets after Lille.

A park and ride system will be in place in Kirchberg, running shoppers to the city centre throughout the day. Meanwhile a post-Braderie party is expected to be held in rue Glesener from 5pm.
