The number of divorce cases in Luxembourg is increasing. Nearly one in two marriages that take place this year is likely to eventually end up in break up. Back in 1980 this figure was a little over one in four.

This is according to a study conducted by CEPS / Instead. The Grand Duchy actually comes third in a list of European countries just behind Sweden and Finland.

The countries of southern Europe with a strong Catholic tradition such as Greece, Spain and Italy, and also Poland, are more resistant.

Furthermore couples are actually divorcing later and later as they also marry later, meaning that the duration of a marriage remains relatively stable. It is beyond the thirteenth year of marriage, on average, that the risk of break-up strongly increases.
