Luxembourg Prime Minister and President of Eurogroup Jean-Claude Juncker today welcomes German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
For her first visit to the Grand Duchy, the Chancellor has a busy schedule. If the friendship between the two neighbouring countries was damaged last year in relation to statements by Peer Steinbruck, former German Finance Minister, who compared the Luxembourg to Burkina Faso, there remains no trace today.
The proof is that, German Chancellor Angela Merkel visits Luxembourg today for the first time to meet her counterpart for a marathon day. This morning Jean-Claude Juncker welcomes her in a reception at Place Clairefontaine, with military honours.
At the heart of the discussions that the two heads will lead is not only the economic situation in Greece, but also a European Monetary Fund that may just help Greece to climb out of their debt situation.
After these talks and a formal meal takes place at the Chateau de Berg. Angela Merkel will then visit the Grand Ducal Palace where she will meet Grand Duke Henri before having a brief interview with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Laurent Mosar.
By late afternoon, Merkel will be on her way to European Court of Justice in Kirchberg before flying back to Berlin.
