On Saturday evening about 9pm on the A3 motorway near Berchem,  a car was violently struck the back of a truck. The passenger died instantly. The driver who was drunk was immediately charged.

According to witnesses, the driver overtook another vehicle in the left lane, before sharply swerving back into the right lane.  However the driver misjudged the space and violently smashed into the back end of a truck with the passenger side of the car.   The 49 year old female passenger was instantly killed.

However, the driver escaped the accident without a scratch. It was later discovered that he was intoxicated and the prosecutor immediately ordered his arrest.

Yesterday the driver was ordered to appear before the judge.

The A3 had to be completely closed for 2 hours while the police inspected the scene and gathered evidence.
