Luxembourg's half-hearted approach to imposing a smoking ban in bars and clubs will seemingly continue in future as establishments will be allowed to provide closed-off smokers' corners. This important detail has been revealed after the draft legislation to be presented by the government was leaked to the press. Luxembourg's Cancer Foundation got hold of a copy and commented on it for news352.lu.
Since 2006, smoking is forbidden in restaurants and bars that serve food, as well as all public places.
Although the foundation's director Marie-Paule Prost welcomes the fact that the ban will be extended to bars and clubs, she regrets that smokers' corners will be allowed. These closed-off areas, where no service will be available, might turn out to be a place, where young people want to go into, giving them a sense of exclusiveness.
When this draft bill will be presented in parliament isn't clear yet.
