The music industry has lost yet another of its great voices too soon. On Saturday, soul diva Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room. Police were called to the scene by hotel staff on Saturday afternoon, Los Angeles time. Rescue teams tried frantically to revive the lifeless singer, but in vain. Local police said there was no apparent foul play, the exact cause of death is still to be determined. The results of the autopsy will only be known in six to eight weeks but an L.A. coroner has already confirmed that the singer was found dead in her hotel bath tub, with water in her lungs. Investigators are said to have found prescription drugs Lorazepam, Xanax and Valium in her room, the same mix of drugs that killed pop star Michael Jackson.
In the 80's and 90s, Whitney Houston was one of the world's biggest singers, with memorable hits such as “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” or the Bodyguard title track “I Will Always Love You”. She sold over 100 million albums, winning many Grammy in the process.
But it was her private life that seems to have been her downfall, Whitney Houston made the headlines for frequent drug consumption and for her failed marriage to RnB singer Bobbi Brown.
