Contrary to France, only 3 to 4 % of Luxembourg residents heat with electricity
During periods of cold weather, like the one we're currently experiencing, people tend to turn up the heating in their homes, which leads to higher electricity consumption. In France, record levels were reached in the past few days.
As Luxembourg's electricity provider, Creos, told RTL, this hasn't happened in the Grand Duchy. No great differences to previous milder winters have been noted, because only 3 to 4 % of the residents use electricity for heating, most people preferring gas or fuel oil.
Until now there have also been a surprisingly low number of cases where water pipes have frozen and burst. This is more of a risk when the weather is humid and cold, as opposed to just cold.
