Farmer ignored warning about leaving animals in field with troughs of frozen water

On Wednesday, a farmer in Angelsberg, near Mersch, had his 30 cows seized by veterinary inspectors, after the animals were left outside in current sub-zero temperatures with no drinking water available. Residents concerned about the well-being of the cattle, alerted police on Monday. The following day, officers and veterinary inspectors paid the farmer a visit and asked him to immediately improve this situation.
When the delegation returned on Wednesday, nothing had changed, which prompted the authorities to seize the animals and bring them to a specialised shelter.

The farmer was charged with mistreating his cattle.

The ministry of agriculture is reminding animal owners, that during extreme cold weather, they must ensure their animals are properly protected and have enough food and water available at all times.
