Thursday afternoon saw an uplifting moment in the Luxembourgish parliament as a fire alarm went off for no apparent reason during political debates.

DP politician and Luxembourg-City mayor Xavier Bettel had just begun his speech on a proposed molestation law, when he was interrupted by the alarm. It went on for 10 seconds and caused smiles all around, with Mr Bettel joking : “ I was aware that some topics are taboo, but I didn't think it would go this far...”

The reason for the alarm was unknown and the debates went on normally afterwards.
