Route with stop in Luxembourg deemed to expensive by Swiss and Belgian rail companies

A new high-speed train route linking the Belgian capital Brussels and Swiss city of Basel, via Luxembourg-City, has been dropped. The project named ''Pendolino'' was supposed to improve the liasion between these three countries, currently trains are forced to travel at slow speed through a curve-rich section in the Belgian Ardennes. After a recent change at the top of Swiss rail company SBB, the project now seems to have been quashed for good.

In an interview with news352.lu on Wednesday, CFL officials confirmed that this project did indeed exist, and that they were approached by Belgian and Swiss rail companies, however the talks were very informal and the project never got beyond the idea stage.
