2 former policemen don't want to follow lawyer's advice to plead guilty

Luxembourg's longest-running justice saga, the Bommeleer (Bomb-layer) case, continues to be shrouded in mystery. On Wednesday, the justice system announced that there was enough evidence against the two only suspects, two former policemen, for the case to be brought to court. On Thursday one of the suspect's high-profile lawyer, Gaston Vogel, advised both men to plead guilty in order to make his job in front of a judge easier.

On Thursday evening though, both suspects were interviewed by RTL and vigorously denied all the charges against them. Marc Scheer and Jos Wilmes rejected the lawyer's plan and insisted they have no idea who was responsible for the bombing spree that gripped Luxembourg from 1985 until 1986.

The suspect's lawyer wants to prove that his client and his former colleague did plant the 20 bombs back then, but were ordered to do so by their superiors.

In Thursday's RTL interview, both men argued that they were being made into scapegoats in this case. Instead of conclusive evidence against them, there is only stupid talk and rumours, they say.

A date for the highly-anticipated court case has not been set yet.
