Deal reached at Thursday's summit of EU justice and interior ministers in Copenhagen

Luxembourg is to get external help to deal with the recent massive influx of asylum seekers to the Grand Duchy. As RTL radio reported, experts from the European asylum-support agency EASO will arrive in Luxembourg next week to assist newly-appointed government officials, that are struggling with the sheer number of asylum demands. On Thursday immigration minister Nicolas Schmit was in Copenhagen for an informal EU-meeting on asylum, to finalise this agreement.

The EASO experts will school the new officials in interviewing techniques and decision-making.

Last year the number of asylum seekers trying to settle in Luxembourg rose dramatically, with most people coming from the Balkan regions. The government was so overwhelmed by the constant arrivals that it had to temporarily close its immigration office and hire extra staff.
