President of Luxembourg's central bank one of 3 nominees

RTL radio reported on Friday that the head of Luxembourg's central bank, Yves Mersch, has been nominated for a vacant seat in the directorate of the European Central Bank.
The 61 year-old is aiming to take over from Spaniard José Manuel Gonzalez-Paramo, whose term is coming to an end.

However, Mr Mersch isn't the only person interested in this position. Spain wants to hold on to this seat within the ECB-directorate for eight further years and is therefore also putting up a candidate.

As well as these two nominees, a representative from Slovenia is also in the running.
