The Coque sports center in Kirchberg this weekend sees the 25th edition of the annual volleyball Novotel Cup. Each year this international tournament is one of the highlights for Luxembourg's national teams. The 2012 edition should appeal to the British community in the Grand Duchy as the volleyball federation has invited the English an Scottish national teams as opponents. Denmark completes the line-up for the men and Germany's Under 16s national team for the women.
The confidence with Luxembourg's men is currently at an all-time high, following Strassen's recent victory over Italian giants Modena in the European Cup. It is hoped that some of the glory of this win can rub off on the national team. Whereas England and Denmark are expected to be difficult opponents, a win is on the cards against Scotland.
For Luxembourg's women the tournament is seen as more of a learning opportunity. This is highlighted by the fact that Germany is taking part with its Under 16s team.
